Got any ideas on what this is?

Found this in SE Vermont while vacationing with my family.
Pretty sure it's lead.
It weighs around 12.5 grams..
At certain angles I think I see some writing.i also see what I can only describe as crystals.
I'm guessing it's old.
I found an 1826 large cent not too far from where I found this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

At 12.5 grams, I'd estimate that it feels heavy for it's size. Lead slag. Looks like lead. Any crystals are probably from sand or dirt it contacted when molten. Any writing is probably your imagination...or maybe left over from whatever it was before it got melted. If it's lead, you should be able to tell that it is a soft metal by running a file against it. It should file away fairly easily, and expose the shiny metal within.
 
Congratulations on the 1826 largie, which I very much wish I could find. The slag not so much.
