Only ones I have heard of exploding these days are from people drilling into them to drain the powder.

The shape suggests it isn't a cannonball, but they all weren't round.
Just a heads up, Cops don't like when you bring something possibly explosive into the police station. If you are really concerned leave it alone and call the police to your house. If they think it's a possible explosive device they will call the bomb squad.

OK, got brave, cleaned it up - Has identical holes on both ends, and the hole runs all the way through - It weighs about 8 lbs, and has the number 103 on it

Someone mentioned a window weight, and it does indeed have the hole for a cord to run through, but seems too heavy for a window.

Here are more pics - Thanks to all who weighed in

Unless my monitor is destorting the picture, then you do not have a cannon ball. The seam would be a problem and the shape is not exactly round. Many of those were used in manufacturing to smooth out other items.

It sure looks a lot like the weights I have on the boat lift to keep tension on the cable when the boat is not in the lift.

I just checked the boat lift at the folks house. That is the exact same thing that keeps a strain on the cables when there is no boat on the lift. It even has the same marking.
