Not to sound dumb but the way the text is put so metal detecting in FL Is ILLEGAL? or is it illegal on beaches historic sites what? Can somebody please explain this?

I believe that it just pertains to state owned lands and archaeological site or sites that are protected. So just make sure you get written permission for land your not sure of. They can take your machine and your car if you in the wrong place.

It supposedly won't affect metal detecting but I don't trust politicians. It covers state owned land and archeological sites. If an organization deems any part of a beach or all beaches to be of archeological importance then MDing will be banned from beaches. Same goes with parks and could even be extended to privately owned land.

They won't take all our freedoms at once, it'll disappear little by little until it's all gone. They word these bills and laws so it isn't conclusive and can have more added down the road when things cool off.

Really don't think it's going to have a huge impact on most areas in Florida. Most everything that can be designated as historical, has, and has been protected for a while. They really can't just protect everything in the state, since somebody owns it, and isn't going to limit their own use of the land, or future sales. Bad for growth and development, not just the hobby. Would be tough to put in a new road, strip mall, attraction, or build new homes, if there was a protected sit in the middle of it. Construction means digging, it wouldn't just stop us, but everything else.

If you own property, it's yours. If there was some archaeological/historical significance, you would have known by now.

gov. do not take your freedoms a mile at a time, they do it an inch at a time! we just lost another inch. blev
