oK, I've yet to go to the beach with my MD (Ace 250) and I need some pointers.

First off I have a few questions.

1) Where is the best place to hunt on the beach. My beaches won't have sand dunes or anything, and there most likely will be a lot of trash left over from construction, hurricanes, etc. Is it best in the upper dry sands or down closer to the waters edge? High Tide? Low Tide?

2) Tool/accessory recommendations? Is a pinpointer really needed on the beach? I have a cheap one, just wasn't sure I'd need it or not.

3) I am thinking of building my own long handled sand scoop, but from all the how-to's I've seen online, they don't say how large of a hole to drill in the actual scoop. Anyone have a say on that?

Thanks! Please advise if you have any other recommendations! Plan on going next Sunday if the weather holds out.

1. The towel line. Where people would set up near the beach.
2. Pinpointer not needed.
3. Holes should not allow at least a dime to fo through.

Below are pictures of 2 things I made but I use the box and scoop ALL the time.

I saw those in another thread when searching for scoops. I must say I kind of like the long handled scoops myself. It's more to carry, but I might make a sifting box as well just so the kiddos can help scoop some too.

So, 1 vote for towel line....
