Tesoros have a solid lineup for relic detecting. The Ace 250 is good, but not the greatest, and in hindisight I would have started off with a F2 or Compadre.

Check out a Silver Umax....their in your price range, simple to use and are favorites of many.

If I were you, I would stay away from all those beginner detectors. My 250 was ok, but theres better for the price......try something nobody else has started off with....it may work out better.

I am new too...

Many great suggestions here.
When getting into any new hobby, sometimes the "detecting" of the truths and myths are part of the fun.

Finding and recovering the gems of knowledge and wisdoms on these forums can easily be
as addicting as finding a rare coin or gold nugget.

My suggestion is to use the search function on the forums, and google, to gain some of the gems and
try to apply that info to your personal situation and desires.

For me the posts and threads by 'Digger27' have been most helpful.
Especially when links to other threads and authors are followed.....
....and links from them to other posters......
....etc....
never ending process...sometimes.....
..... But much knowledge and experience can be easily gained studying from those who freely, unselfishly offer
the gems up for those who seek them.

Here is a link to start with.....when you finish reading this thread in a couple of days......
look up digger's Compadre thread also.
The time will not be wasted....because of my study and research, I have hit the ground running and
having more success that I would have had, without the gems that I have put to use during my hunts with
my F2 and Harbor Freight pin-pointer (supertuned)
$16.24 in clad, 1 silver ring, three great hotwheels, and many interesting items, in 3 weeks of hunts.

Happy Hunting (for the detector and then the treasures)

Fisher F2 for sure. Got mine in April and have already found over 70 bucks ic coins, a genuine metorite, a civil war button, and all kinds of other goodies. I debated between the ace. compadre. and f2 for a couple months before I decided on the F2 and it will find relics and coins. There are also a couple coils that you can buy for it that will give you lots more depth but like I mentioned before I found a general service infantry button with the small 4 inch coil. It is all about location. I was also told by kellyco that PA soil would give me trouble cuz the f2 is mucho sensetive but I run it full powwer and hardly ever get chatter. Hope this helps. HH

I vote Compadre all the way. General all purpose, every purpose perfect detector. It'll work in space, in ice caves, even UNDER lava!

No, seriously, get one - you won't regret it.
