Just a couple of bullets from a weekend hunt. Nicest one is in the middle with the infamous "ramrod" nose cone. It also has vertical lines (6 total) all the way around, equally spaced it seems. Could this be the rifling marks? It was only 1" in the ground! Pro-pointer hit on it from surface.

Also a small metal button with the shank intact.

What would you think was happening if you only find one type of bullet pocketed at about 4 separate sites with no other bullet types? Skirmishes are said to have occurred where these were dug. So far we have unearthed about 30+ Minie Balls, mostly fired, a few dropped or run over during their time underground. Should there be more to the area?

Sometimes skirmishes were volley'd over 300 yards. Maybe the confederate bullets are further away. Also, these may have been a target practice area. Nice finds and good luck on finding those confederate bullets.
