Hi,
here are a couple of pictures of finds from the Winter War. If you don't know about this have a read here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter_war
The bigger shrapnel piece is about 20cm long and is Russian. The curvature of the shell is clearly visible. The ground up there is FULL of this stuff!
The rounds are called rakapää in Finnish which mean snot-head! The bullets are wooden and are practice rounds. The wooden heads were used so that the rounds would feed properly in automatics. They are thoroughly inert as 72 years in the wet ground with a wooden bullet means the cordite was useless about 70 years ago already!
I found lots of these and hundreds of other shell casings literally littering the battlefield. I will be going up again this summer at some point.
