CONGRATULATIONS ! nice save
it looks pretty worn, I don't think you can ruin it
or destroy the value much more,
in that condition...not a key dated coin?
I'd throw some silver polish at it,
Its probably only worth it silver weight, 1/4 ounce ? $ 4 bucks ?

Anyone know how to clean this without destroying it?

I found a Walker half once in worse shape. Tried cleaning but had to resort to electrolysis. It looks much better now than it did when I found it, but whatever was in the soil it was found it, sure did a number on it.

Might try something like Tarn-x 1st. The coin has no collectible value, so do whatever makes you happy with it. That said, there's nothing you'll do to make it look like a new coin.

Awesome find! Here is my Barber Quarter before and after I rubbed the holy !!!! out of it with baking soda and water paste.

It's a sweet sweet barber ! Congradulations on the first and I am sure not the last 👍 She is beutiful just the way she is .

Congrats! As stiffwrists said just add a couple of drops of water to baking soda and make a paste. Just rub the coin with your fingers using the paste. Works great on toasted silver.

Congrats on your first Barber !

It's totally up to you but ...
If that was my coin I'd put it in an electrolysis bath.
It's a safe and non abrasive way to clean encrusted Silver coins, aluminum Tokens and Relics.
It only attacks the foreign matter ( aka crud ) on an object.
But be careful not to leave the coin in to long because once all the crud is gone - it will start eating the silver (only like if you forgot it overnight).

I would guess that all the crud would just fall off your coin under running water after only 15 to 30 minutes or so in the bath.
I've used mine countless times to remove heavy crud, asphalt from driveway coins, etc.

You can probably make your own Electrolysis bath with a few things you already have laying around your house or garage.
It's safe to use, easy to build and it's free.
If your interested, you can find instructions on how to build one on the net.

Good Luck !

I'll chime in on the token...
Back in the day, there used to be separate organizations for the "Young Men's Christian Association" and the "Young Women's Christian Association". Hence, the YMCA and the YWCA. My mom used to go to the YWCA when she was a teenager (back in the 1930's). I assume they integrated at some point and kept the one name.

It's a good thing they didn't integrate into the YWCA...the Village People would have had it rough...too many syllables.

First off, HUGE CONGRATULATIONS on the Barber. Nice Save. I am surprised a silver coin came out of the ground that dirty. Up here where I live any silvers I have found come out of the ground bright and shiny. Its silver, should clean up nice. WTG and thanks for sharing.
