Rusty 1959 penny?

Was detecting in my side yard this afternoon, got a perfect 72 vid on the patriot. Dug up a penny. Looks to have rust on it. I recheck my hole nothing else in with it. I'm kinda puzzled. Anyone ever seen something like this?

I might be completely wrong, but could it be fertiliser from your lawn reacting with the copper?
