The grooves make me think its newer than civil war era but I dont know jack...

It's a modern pistol bullet I believe probably a 9mm but not sure on actual caliber

You could get some calipers and measure it. They are not expensive. Amazon/Harbor Freight has them.

Civil War era bullets did not have the vertical crimping lines that you will see in the lined are at bottom of bullet.
