On my 1865 and 1874 maps there is what is called a game pond. What is this? Is it for playing games or is it for hunting? I have never seen this

I would think it refers to fishing and maybe hunting.....

This is what I would go with too.

Usually an area owned by a sporting club or even by the state which got stocked with fish.

If this place is still accessible, find where the foot traffic may have been and this could be a decent site to hunt.

I agree with the above posts, If that pond is still there I would go IN the water after all the goods outside dry up. Happy hunting!

The pond is no longer there. On the 1882 map it is gone but i know about where it was. I guess it cant hurt to take a look and see what i can find. You never know it could have been a swimming hole also.

Back then it most likely would be referring to hunting water fowl. I don't think fish were referred to as 'game' back then. Probably a popular duck hunting pond.
