Hi All,

Long time lurker, infrequent poster... My dad is having some issues with his excal that he thinks is related to the battery cable. (Possible short...) Is there anyone that works on these anymore outside of Minelab? I suspect this is a minor fix, but I don't want to make matters worse and it's not like you can buy the hardwired parts. I'm in central VA if that helps at all. I appreciate any help.

Thanks so much!

Michael

Not this time of year

ML 6-8 weeks on Excalibur's , this is why most have 2 , or 2+ Excalibur's in case 1 need's to go in the shop, common on Excalibur's , order a new one, send the old to the shop, happy hunting, Earl

First thing you do is clean off the ikelite pins and holes in the battery pod with a q tip and some alcohol to see if its a contact issue. I repair all my friends excaliburs but they know im not an expert. I totally take Ikelites apart and replace all the o rings inside. You can cut the wire only once or twice doing repairs on the wire. Easier to solder the brass to the wires while one is totally apart for me.

I just sent my excal in to the new Minelab repair center in PA yesterday and was told the turn around time was 3-5 days and perhaps even faster. NICE!!

You now have to give ML the serial number off the motherboard when you send it in before sending it in. You can see that through the case. NICE!

They then give you an RMA number to send in with your machine :)

That's great, maybe they cleaned up there act, as when i needed mine repaired it was Excalibur's have the longest turn around time because they all get tank tested for leak's, nice to know thanks, Earl

Yes minelab has a new sheriff in town. Call Minelab Customer Service and they will tell you where to send it and issue an RMA number. So far all I have heard about the new Sheriff has been glowing reports. After the fiasco at the previous repair (?) center it is refreshing to hear repairs being done in record time

As itsaring said, clean the pins and see if you can get a steady threshold. if you can not, leave the battery connected and machine on and wiggle the cord back and forth a bit, the connection inside the connector may have some bad corrosion on it, you may be able to get a peep of threshold here and there, this would suggest bad connection to me.
I have had that problem twice and had to take apart the ikelite, to find a mass of green corrosion, and had to cut back the wire and reconnect afterwards, not such a big deal...

Not sure the old place actually tank tested or not?

Hi
clear contacts.
check is switched on from an external power source.
check the integrity of the cable and plug

if the malfunction is simple, you can do it yourself.
if the board does not turn on - give for repair to specialists (there to forum or a service center)
Ruslan.

NICE! Mine were taking 2-3 months just to replace seals after buying a used machine.
