Odd you found them with numbers or writing.
First guess is tree or utility tags. No wear around holes. Definitely nailed to something stationary.

Good luck. Nothing more aggravating then finding a tag with no writing.

Nobody I know has ever found what those are, many shapes and decorations are found but never id,ed.
Probably used on something leather
They have been found with another part to them.

Saddle strap guides

The top one appears to have a shadow of a skeleton key. Perhaps it was from a door that locked from one side only..

Saddle strap guides

Alot of people have said that , but not a single picture of any saddle, harness or bridle shows them.
I have searched for many hours over many years for the strap guide idea and furniture hardware idea ,as have others.
Hope someone can figure it out.

Its because these predate the McClellan type saddles and as you know there are barely any pictures of these types of horse riding gear as cameras were not invented yet , so there is your paradox .

I'm not familiar with saddlery.
But in my very limited searching the closest I can find is a saddle bearer loop.
I'm thinking this may be a earlier version of the ones pictured.
Also I'm sure I've seen these ID'd on one of the forums.
Hope this helps in a further search.

Thanks huntindog, those were on gig or driving saddle.
The loop held the straps that attached to the buggy shafts.
They are similar but not the same.
The plate on those bearer loops were unde a layer of leather and would not be ornate or silved plated ,as most the items found are.
