This is a long shot, but I’m hoping someone can help ID this saddle shaped object I found while hunting a curb strip today in front of late 1800s/early 1900s homes. The etching is simple but elegant, and strongly hints that it’s from the same time frame. Best I can come up with is maybe a saddle from some sort of horseback toy? The underside has a small fold along each edge as though it used to clip onto something. The look, feel, and weight are consistent with brass, and rang up on the Equinox as 19-20 on the VDI which can also mean brass. But the bright gold color that’s prominent within the hollow of each dot suggests it may actually have been gilded?

Any ideas appreciated!!

Metal horse figurine was also my first, best , and only guess. They were popular in the 1950s-60s. Had a couple myself although if memory serves the saddle was not removable. Neat find.

Dangit! I should know what that is.. I remember a couple years ago trying to "re-attach" one of those and getting frustrated. I kept trying to "smash" it to get the clips to engage, but wasn't having any luck. But that is all I remember, and even that is iffy.... ...it might be clothing related, but still iffy. When I'm not thinking about it I will remember what it is..

I wonder if it was a sliding cover for something and the rear of the 'saddle' was to pull up or push down on.... it would be at the top

Awesome ID...
I knew I'd seen one of those before, but didn't remember until I saw the ring.
My older sister had one when we were kids.

I think it's where she kept her paper sunshine... LOL

That's the key word that did the trick. "sliding"

It's a sliding locket ring from the 50s.
