Had a great time digging today and scored some unusual finds. Started off in my front yard digging some weak signals and unearthed three keys scattered a few feet apart, all from the Chicago Lock Co. The unusual thing about these was that all three keys were cut to the exact same lock! Then hit a curb strip across the street and found another of the same style key, but this one had a different cut. My feeling is that these had some connection with the old elementary school across the street, torn down in the early 1970s. Maybe locker or desk keys.
Then saw my neighbor down the street cutting her lawn and got a new permission! Dug a beautiful 1944 Merc dime, a boy scout neckerchief slide, a bunch of clad, several wheats dating back as far as 1918, and what appears to be a ring marked 10K GF. The proportions are a little strange so I'm thinking its either a piece of costume jewelry or maybe even part of a gold plated lipstick holder or fountain pen.
Then drove around doing some errands and noticed that a nearby street had the median dug up to pour new concrete curbs, so went back and hit it up and found a few pennies, and just as I dug up a 1961 silver dime it started to rain, ending my digging for the day. No complaints, it was a great day!
