1911 Horse License Cleaning Advice - Update

Howdy yall, I found this vehicle tax plate a while back in Chicago good for, "ONE HORSE" but never thought about cleaning it. I am not sure what kind of metal it is although it does feel light weight and it could probably bent easily. I don't want to change the patina or overall look but would like to try removing the corrosion crust if possible.

Any ideas?

Try dry brushing it with a toothbrush. A tooth pick will help with the stubborn parts.

From the photos you sent me it looks like the lemon juice worked pretty good.

Lemon juice works good on aluminum coin/tokens.

What do you think? Better or ruined? I always feel bad cleaning things but I wanted to try to stop the corrosion on this.

Thanks Coleminer - It's one my favorite unique finds. I remember digging it thinking it was a piece of scrap metal!
