I want to get excited about finding this old button, but I'm not sure of it's origin. It was found in an area of known Union Army presence. Maybe someone here can shed some light. I was going to post it in the "Help Me I.D. My Finds" forum, but I am sure that it's a relic of some sort. I hope from Civil War times.

Thanks Wally. It helped. Mine is the "Great Seal" button. Adopted by the military in 1902 and used until World War 2. Oh well. So close.

It may not be CW but it's still a nice US military button find, KevinB. Thanks for the link with the helpful info, wally76.

I admit...I was slightly disappointed that it wasn't a Civil War relic. But upon closer inspection, it IS a nice old button, and provided a thrill when I found it. It'll go nice in my FINDS display. I'm happy with it.
