Hey guys I was just wondering where you think the best places to hunt are and what you have found there. Now I don't want your specific location but just like the beach, tot lot, etc...

stage stops and emigrant stopping spots (preferably virgin, and with no modern influences blt. on top). Old country picnic sites (preferably virgin, that ceased usage after 1920's :) . Beach storm erosion where all the light stuff is washed away.

Those are 3 that come to mind :)

Ok, not a very big town but there's a whole ocean to your east. Must be some CW history nearby. Look up historical road markers in your area. Get on the Internet . Read and read some more. Then look up old maps.the best places are the ones you worked hard to find.

I copy and pasted this from the 'Ground Found Coins' social group. All credits go to Coinshark! :)

Residential Home Locations:
-I nearly always find coins within four feet of a driveway within the first 20 feet from the house. Top reasons for this is purse spills and reaching for keys in pockets.
-Within four feet of walkways, driveways, and porches.
-Within the last ten feet of driveway and near mail boxes.
-Four feet around trees.
-Seven feet around gates.
-Within six feet of high traffic areas. Pathways between gates, porches, sheds, and gardens.
Sporting Locations:
-Near, around, and under bleachers.
-Along the edges of the playing fields and goal lines.
-Within six feet of high traffic areas.
-Near and around snack bars locations.
-Near and around outdoor vending areas.
-Within three feet of all corners and edges around volleyball courts and within six feet of both sides of the net.
-Within four feet of the edges of a basketball court, six feet of goals and corners.
-Near common start and finish points of running tracks.
-Sidewalks leading to and from parking lot locations.
-Within seven feet of picnic tables and benches.
-On baseball fields search twenty to thirty feet around and behind home plate and foul catch fencing. Ten to twenty feet around the field edges and ten to thirty feet behind the bases in the outfield.
Beach Locations:
-Friday evenings after a busy week, or Sunday evenings after a busy weekend.
-I always check beach volleyball courts first.
-After those, I head out within 25-35 feet of the waterline
-Eroded areas after a storm.
Farms and Fields:
-Within twenty-five feet of gates.
-Four feet around trees and large stone markers.
-Twenty-five feet around door or entrance of barns and sheds.
-Anywhere around creeks, tanks, lakes, ponds, and rivers.
-If location has centuries old history, high land for camp sites.
-Throughout any unpaved parking areas.
-Search on-line for Historical Aerials and check the old maps and scans before leaving home.
Parks, Campgrounds, and Playgrounds:
-Within ten feet of any playground equipment.
-Within twenty feet of large trees, four feet around normal trees.
-Around any sports fields/locations.
-Near common start and finish points of running tracks.
-Sidewalks leading to and from parking lot locations.
-Within seven feet of picnic tables and benches.
-Along any trail or waterway.
-Throughout any unpaved parking areas. Twenty feet of paved parking.
-Twenty-five feet around fire pits and grills.
Schools and Churches:
-When getting permissions at a church, ask where the church picnics happen on the property and were the children tend to run and play.
-Playgrounds at schools and churches.
-Any open fields.
-Within six feet of high traffic areas.
-Within twenty feet of large trees, four feet around normal trees.
-Within seven feet of picnic tables and benches.
-Throughout any unpaved parking areas.
Roadways and Highways:
-Highway rest stops---sidewalks, picnic areas, and park benches.
-Roadside lots used for fruit, food, firework, or Christmas tree stands.
-Curb strips between road and sidewalks.
-Roadside unpaved parking and street side high foot traffic areas.

I just finished hunting an 1860s mansion and found a number of silver coins: 3 roosevelts, 3 mercuries, a 1940 Irish half crown, 1901 Barber quarter, 4 Washingtons and a silver salt shaker. Also an 186? French 10 Trimes. A .69 caliber minieball and a couple of lead soldiers as well.

Before this a football practice field gave up 3 gold rings and about $40 in clad.
