This morning’s hunt started off slow. The few targets I located were trash, no clad to speak of, and absolutely no “interesting” finds. However, my hunting buddy was doing pretty well.

So after a couple hours of futility, we went to a new location. Things started looking up. I pulled a wheat penny, then got a good nickel signal and dug a coin. I wiped the dirt off one side and saw a buffalo. Cool, things were getting better. I dropped it into my “keepers” pouch.

I also picked up a 1906 IHP and an old padlock (patent date 1896).

All in all, things ended a lot better than they started.

At home I began cleaning my finds. I got to my nickel and made a discovery:

It wasn’t a “real” buffalo nickel, but one of those modern buffalo commemorative nickels. D’oh!

Oh well, at least I got to spend the day with a good friend hunting for treasure. And, I ended up with a couple of cool finds. Even if one of them wasn’t a buffalo nickel.
