I have been working real hard on tryin at find CW
sites for a while now. That’s why I haven’t been
postin many finds lately. Haven’t found many good
prospects.
I drove to a place today where tha Yankees crossed
a river under fire from tha Rebel forces. A battle was
fought on tha other side.
Here is a painting representing t
ha Yankee crossing.
In tha early 1900’s, tha river changed course. That
place is now a horseshoe lake. The other side is a
large island, almost. It is joined to land on this side
of tha river, in tha painting, in a couple of places.
One of tha places is on private property, and the
other is remote and has a lot of swamp.
I don’t have permission, so I opted for tha swamp.
Here’s a few pics on tha way.
I was headed for this old water tower that was built
in tha early 1900’s, before tha river changed courses.
I heard this close to where tha Rebel forces were
camped.
I had to go around things and ended up walking
about four miles through mud and briars pulling
and tearing my legs almost every step.
It didn’t look that bad on Google Earth.
I almost gave up a few times. If it wasn’t for my
GPS receiver, I would have never found it in one
day.
I found a couple of old fireplaces a ways from tha
water tower.
Now, I was faced with one big problem???!!!!!
It took a lot longer to get there than I had planed on.
If I headed back as fast as I could, I might not have
time to pick up my son at school.
So I swung tha coil a little as I left. I found some can
slaw, some old iron and one shot gun shell.
Now, I’m gonna show it to ya real good, because I
worked so hard to get it.
Now that is a hard earned shell.
Thanks fer lOOkin.
I think I’m gonna take a hot tub bath and crash.
