Hello Been detecting for a few decades and some of my favorite historical military finds are these sword hangers. It is so awesome to save such a piece of history and I honor them and the fallen soldiers that wore them. HH 401K

I am pretty sure that the middle one is not a sword hanger, but rather a British snake buckle from a belt. They were used by confederate soldiers during the civil war. I don't know if the union used them or not. A quick google search for British snake buckle will provide photos of all kinds of variations.

X2 I think even civilians could buy them, it's definitely a snake buckle, which in my opinion is even better than a sword hanger!! WTG!!

This is your quote:
We should Honor are fallen soldiers not trash their history.

Here you have misrepresented the snake hook belt buckle.
It easy to do,

Here is a link to a nice resource http://www.colchestertreasurehunting.co.uk/s/snakebuckles.htm they seem to have a good idea. pretty sure they were all made in England from the Civil War back to around 1575 and used as sword hangers " fasteners " until the late 1700s and imported for the civil war as belt buckles, added another belt piece. We all agree over here that this one is old ( holding it looking at it style of design) The duck is the old style with the same design in between the two heads. Makes a difference what design you have. A good way to date them. Check it out. There are a lot of modern ones but none the same design that we have seen. Think the military used them right up until the early 1900s and then the private sector are still using them. But with different design on them. HH 401K

someone on one of the t-nets said they were sword hangers http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/to...t=sword+hanger but they do look like horse tack

Treasure net? Really? That takes all of your credentials in one statement and throws em out the window!

I have never seen so much false info flying around as tnet.. Blind leading the blind over there...

I don't care, horse tack or sword hanger, if they call it a sword hanger at T-net, its got to be HORSE TACK!!

<*)))>{

And then...... the fight was on.

This is like the third or fourth argument I have seen between tack/hanger...

No fight from me, I'm just saying, If the source is T-net, I'll vote the other...

This stuff sounds like a broken record already!!

I'm already done here....(in before the lock!)

Just trying to be passive, there is way better proof. HH 401K

thats just a detecting website Scott they mis id'ed things over there as well , besides that site hasn't been update in some time.

The U.K. Data base website is more current , up to date and active and all the items that look like your gag swivels , gag runners , gag loops are listed as horse fittings take a look at this page with a few examples.
http://www.ukdfd.co.uk/ukdfddata/showcat.php?cat=169&page=15

heres one listed as 1700's to 1800's by the way Scott and called by their other name "Roger Rings" http://www.ukdfd.co.uk/ukdfddata/showrecords.php?product=37458&title=harness-fitting&cat=169

Do you think you could provide it:?:

Shunkaha , unfortunately Scott can't provide up to date proof but he can call everyone names he disagrees with or accuse them of dishonoring fallen hero's . because we all know how constructive and productive that will be to this thread. step up Scott , offer some real proof or give it a rest .

So is this a sword hanger?

it is Uptown603 if your listening to Scott and the other confused 2% , the other 98% of the people have got it right and have moved on.

How could a sword hang from those?

Smith693 , Scott can't answer that question either . maybe its not just a "sword hanger" but a "magic sword hanger" and holds onto the sword and releases it upon telepathic command.:lol:

Scott your always very entertaining but in a sad kinda way.

Oh no.... Oh no, no, nooooo....

I JUST got over the eye twitching, from the LAST go-round of this argument!!

RUN AWAY!!! RUN AWAAAAYYYY!!!
