Well......I tried a few knocks the past few days and had no luck....
I ended up missing the folks an hour north of me, then drove an hour east to my backup location....Nobody at the first spot I wanted to hit....I went to the back up to the back up a park that looked like it had some age to it, but was beat to death.......
I looked across the street and saw the lower portion of the structure was sitting on stacked stone foundation....I hopped across and knocked...nobody there either.....got back in the park and scanned for a few minutes then a guy came out of the driveway across the street ;);) I flagged him down and he said sure go ahead. Not much in that tiny lawn , but at the edge where it dropped off a couple feet ,and also judging by the grass appeared that there may have been something sitting there for a long time...(flower pots or a sign or ....) anyway got a screamin quarter signal at just 3 inches.....I wasn't too optimistic about it being old, but out popped a silver GW.
But nothing old there.....
Lastly with my allotted dig time dwindling down , I hit the desperation little center of town park " the gazebo park" the little parks you see in the tiny old villages that have about enough parking for about 6 cars......I had actually tried to stop there around noon but there was about 20 people gathered around in the center......luckily they'd all cleared out by 2ish......
So I parked and started swinging and boy was this park dead.....In the next 30 or 40 minutes I probably kneeled 3 times and had about 75 cents in surface clad to show.....I knew the town was old and boy if I could count how many times I've hit these gazebo parks in towns like this and CTX always squeaks out deep leftover.....well, I was just about ready to throw in the towel I'd zigzagged back and forth 3 times , I felt like I was searching a sandbox, but I just knew there had to be something left for me.....I went to desperation mode and hugged the coil around the base of all the old trees....and SUDDENLY I get a high tone.....I double back and see 12-44 at 7.....What !!!??? Could it be? I finally have potential??It was a squeaker ....and it wasn't really holding the 44....it was dropping into penny range , but at that depth I was definitely hopeful, and I've had plenty of thin Barbers come in lower like that .....I stuck my little shovel in the dirt fully expecting to have one of those impossible roots fighting me off....but surprisingly the hole carved out fairly easy....anyway, finally the pinpointer beeps right around the 6 inch mark and there was the welcome sight I was hoping for......
By this point my cell phone is blowing up and I told the old lady I had the truck started and was walking that way.....well, half way to the truck I snagged a glimpse of a 12-44 on my CTX......not that deep....maybe 6 ,.but I think it may have even clipped the 45 mark just for a split second....So I dug it and to my surprise it was my 3rd silver of the day......No , it didn't even cover the gas for that crazy trip, but it did make my day.....
oh boy, sorry about the novel.......
BTW, I just wanted to mention a strange pattern I noticed, I have NOT DUG ONE SINGLE NICKEL all year literally ZERO !!! Now , I know I am probably a bit more selective than we should be, but over my last 6 or 8 hunts I've been consciously looking for them ....wonder if I should have a quick review of the program I'm running.....
Anyway......one of these days I'll be posting something nice....I can feel it......its coming.......
If you read all this, well, thanks.....if not oh well..............Ciao ........

Reading your thread Bob was a reminder of so many of my hunts over the last two years. Covering pounded ground being the scavenger in search of crumbs. Those welcomed deep faint squeaks on the CTX that brings a big smile and the moment of fulfillment of your quest. Congrats my friend on the well earned Barber's along with the Silver Washington. My explanation for the Nickels is that your ear is so tuned for that deep Silver sound that the ear dismisses all others. At least that is my excuse. Trapper

What ? A NY east coast post with no LC's ? Only boring barbers ? Sheesk ! :sissyfight: :sissyfight:
