Back out in the woods today around a mid-1800's cellar hole. The grass and ferns have grown too high to search in the immediate vicinity of the foundation. Instead, I stayed in the adjacent brush-free woods which at one time was a pasture.
Five minutes into the hunt, I found these two brass artifacts -- only a couple feet apart and about 6" deep. I can only imagine that a woman lost or discarded a pair of shoes in that location, around 150 years ago. I further checked around the dug holes and immediate area -- no other sign of metal or other remnants of those shoes.
In the past, I was happy to find a single heel plate with a hexagonal hole in its center. Today it was a real treat to find a heel plate with a heart-shaped cutout. Finding the second 'twin' was way beyond any expectations.
Spent the next two hours hunting without any other 'good' signals. Went home happy...
Best to all,
