Me and two of my digging buddies hunted a old football field at a old high school. I was running the Deus full tones, sensitivity 95, reactivity 2, -1 silencer, no discrimination, ground balance tracking, TX 2. I was digging every signal looking for gold and that's exactly what I found. My two buddies each found silver rings. I found some other cool things like a coin from Israel, two bling pieces of jewelry, a old convex button that dates the early part of the 1800's, a wheatie and two Danville transit tokens but the find of the day was a old 10K gold ring that was actually on a junk thin chain when I found it in the plug. Unfortunately the stone is cut glass but it's still a nice ring. Ty for looking and HH!

Congrats. I dig it all on most of my sites and the lower conducters can sometimes be awesome finds but they've been gold only four times

Ty, if I'm hunting athletic fields I dig it all, most times I just cherry pick looking for silver

If you get on a site that gives up multiple 1800s coinage or anything from the 1700s then not digging it all is very foolish. I understand that some sites are littered with modern trash but not much of a problem around here and I tend to avoid them. Just in the past weak I dug a 1600s nipple button and a 1700s knee buckle that both read like foil

Oh yea I know that, if I ever was on a site that old I'd dig it all. I hunt house sites mostly from the 1900's and up so I will never find colonial stuff.

You can definately rack up the modern silver and gold rings with that approach. Any reason why you dont hunt fields in search of older stuff or does your area not have that?

I don't have fields like that here in Southern Va. it was so rural here in the 1700's. There were very few people. I've tried hunting fields and never found anything but modern bullets shotgun shells. I'm even friends with the historical researcher for my county and he says this area just had very few people back then which makes it extremely rare to find a field where you would find colonial stuff

Makes sense but Ive always figured most of Virginia would be prime detecting ground but you are a good ways from the sea and all my early sites have one thing in common. They all sit right along waterways that were easily navigable to the sea back in the day or still to this day. Plus still mostly all farmland

Nice hunt CW! I haven't found gold with the Deus...yet, but had 3 Major bucket listers today including a coin I never thought I would find!
