I found this bullet near a civil war battlefield. Caliper says it is .36 caliber. I'm not sure about whether it is Civil War or not. Any insight?

Notice the crimp marks in the grove. That method of loading came about some time after the civil war.

The only reference I've found for the knurled or reeded cannelure (groove) is from the Treasurenet Forum. It says the knurled or reeded cannelure is a feature found in bullets manufactured after around 1878. I've not found independent verification of that data.
