I’ve been giving my usual park a break the past few weeks because I stumbled across another park that’s been producing like crazy (for me anyway). I’ve now found silver 3 out of 4 hunts, got my first Indian head penny (1907), 18 wheats ranging from the teens to the 40s, and some weird period items like a 1940s-era lipstick tube, a 1920s-era silver plated spoon, and today I got some mid-century China and what looks like it might be a brass hat pin.

Silver #1 was a 1943-S merc.

Silver #2 was a 1911 Australian three pence that was in a hole with a 191x wheat penny, which really threw me for a loop.

I got silver numbers 3, 4 & 5 today: 1945-S war nickel, 1929-S merc & a freakin 1911 Barber!

The barber rang up as a bouncy 17-20 on the Equinox, and I figured it could be a wheat next to some iron, which I’ve been running across a lot. Turns out, it was under a giant rock, so it really caught be by surprise when it popped out.

I popped the war nickel right at the end for the trifecta.

The IHP was from another day, but here it is.

This park is bizarre. All of these old coins were within about 4” of the surface and some of the wheats were less than an inch down. Not sure what’s going on there, but I’ll take it!

Congrats on the silver and other finds. Agree, it's rather unusual to find that many older coins that shallow. Could it be possible that the park has seen little detector activity?

Thanks, yeah, all the parks where I live have seen at least some detectors, but it’s very possible that it hasn’t been hit with modern tech. Picking out wheats and silver from the immense amount of trash would have been tough with an old-school detector.
