hello everyone,im a noobie here, just got my ace 250.and have a stupid
question for yall, what is the average depth of coins in sand and dirt?thanks

in hard dirt 90% of my finds are less than 3", at the beach in sand its a mix of less than 1" to 12" plus, depends on the day an how much sand has moved around.

It also depends on the age of coins you're looking for. My neck of the woods, Indian head pennies/Barber Dimes, etc.. are around 5-7" in dirt. Wheats are usually 1.5" - 4".

Good luck!

Here in central Florida a coin can sink beyond a reading in a matter of months. I found statehood quarters beyond 8 inches in this area. The soil is so sandy, a coin will turn on edge and go down in a short time until it hits hard pack or shells. I dig almost every null on my dfx. That's why older coinds are hard to find inland.....their there, just to deep to detect with a vlf. So, it's more a matter where you are and what the soil conditions are. Every detector has it's good days and bad days depending on how the ground balance is set. To answer your question any where from 1/2 inch to a foot, with a mean average of 6 inches. HH Gil
