The storm wasn't bad enough to wake me up, but the tree sure did. The wife jumped up screaming, I jumped up screaming, the dog jumped up screaming,and we all screamed together for a few seconds until we realized we weren't dead.

I can picture that so well, the way you tell it is funny as all get out, glad nobody was dead!

Was that a separate tree or part of the tree that's still standing ?

I'm sure after that you'll be inspecting all the trees close to the house.
