Yes it is the annual Southend-on-Sea airshow, held on the Sunday and Monday.
This was the holiday weekend, just gone. They close the seafront off to traffic, and have various traders and displays.
The weather on Sunday started wet and horrible, but cleared by lunchtime when the show started. Then around 3pm it started to get very hazy, and the cloudbase dropped. This then stopped most of the flying
One the Monday it rained virtually all day, and hardly anything flew
The Red Arrows are soon off to do shows in Canada and the US.

Not walking on the beach in May but
One time I was all by myself doing some welding in the middle of this big ranch. I was just working away with the welder roaring and it started getting louder and louder. I stopped, raised my helmet and coming towards me, real low, was a B-1-B bomber and a couple of escorts. I could almost see the pilots when they flew over. I had only seen one on TV a few times. I watched until they were out of site.

I was hunting north of Prescot, AZ once... and was preparing supper at my campfire. I felt 'something' - I think an air pressure change... turned and looked up... and saw a fighter jet bearing down on me.. so low, that as it passed, I could see the pilot laughing at me.. scared the **** out of me... but certainly a memorable occasion. Turns out, they do low level excersises from the airbase up in those hills. Airwave sat me right on my butt. RickO
