I was curious of the people who hunt nj and ny with PI machines. I know terry does, but that's about all I can think of. I know nj and parts of my are loaded with iron, but I gotta beleive that a PI machine would give you a leg up on excals who are missing the gold?! I think I'm gonna get me one very soon!

Good Luck to you! I dig it all because I'm used to it as a gold prospector out west. I dig twice as many targets as the next guy, but I find more gold than the next guy as well.
MY OPINION - If you decide to get a pulse induction machine for the beach, the Sand Shark is just as good or better than the Sea Hunter; Dual Field; Infinium; or any other beach PI on the market today. You don't need to spend more to get more. It is the easiest to use and learn, and is the ONLY one with a lifetime warranty. The new Sand Shark also holds its resale value as well or better than the others. It takes 50-100 hours on the headphones and behind the scoop to nail water hunting with the 8" Sand Shark. Have a big scoop, and be in shape! Best of luck no matter what unit you buy!

Try hunting your beaches with your Excal in Pinpoint mode only and see if you really want to dig everything. I think the ratio of iron to gold is not worth all that wasted time digging scrap metal. If you have beaches that don't have much iron than go for it. I only use my Dual Field on select beaches, and my Excalibur on the others. They each have their uses. Good Luck with your decision.

The Sea Hunter has interchangeable coils and can go up to 14 inch in coil diameter, or down to 8 inch for tight spaces The Sea Huner has interchangeable headphone and can be upgrade buy simply connecting another pair. The SH HAS true pulse delay. Garrett stands behind their machines no matter how long you own it. I was the second owner of a GTI 1500 and Garrett replaced it at no charge. I shopped around on the internet and bought a SH for a better price than a Sand Shark and the SH comes with a "free" hip mounting gear. The Sea Hunter was the detector of choice for the $400 Million dollar discovery of the Achoia by Mel Fisher and is still in use by his company today. I think that is a pretty good unpaid endorsement. For the same price the Sea Hunter has several features above the San Shark and I would be happy to compare the depth. Please be 100% truthful in your post about all machines not just your biased Sand Shark. __________________ |

Im pretty use to digging it all. I've done it for hours on end and consider myself a very well rounded water hunter. That is with a Vlf machine. I'm just looking To mix up my arsenal and get deeper. This thread is in no way intended to ask which machines are the best. I'm only really asking if you guys think PIs are worth it on nj beaches. I'm also curious who else hunters ny and nj with a PI . I'm heading to NC in sept and am very tempted to buy a PI because of that trip. Also some of my amily just moved to CT and and live rite near the coast. So chancs are I will get one when the time and price is rite!

Big,
I have been hunting up and down the NJ coast for close to 2 decades. Bottom line is, a PI unit on a lot of the NJ beaches can have it's place depending on time of year and conditions. If you plan on getting into the water and hunting knee/waist deep, it's a good solution. Thing is, when Fall and Winter comes, and the big Noreasters (heck, can't remember the last time we had one of them) come, you aren't going to be in the water much, so wet sand and suds is the name of the game. Certain beaches are iron infested, and any PI is an effort in futility unless you really do plan on digging pounds of nails, washers, iron, etc. in search on that elusive gold. Since you have listed an Excal as one of your weapons, I suggest what one of the other hunters stated...use it in all metal to get a feel for how an dig all hunt goes on one of the more iron infested NJ beaches (there are plenty...any beach with a boardwalk or several piers is a culprit). I use an Infinium and Eric Foster Goldquest V2 on the beaches, but I would say they get used about 20-25% of the time throughout the year, and only on certain beaches. Most of the time I am using a VLF in the wet sand and suds but when the conditions are right, or I want to venture into the water, the Infinium comes out. In all honesty, I think a waterproof PI unit should be in the arsenal of any serious salt water beach hunter. Which one is not my call. As we all know, conditions and the hunter determine the performance of any unit. Conditions due to some units being able to handle them better than others, the hunter due to preference of features. |

Thanks rover, that answers alot of questions I had and confirms some of my thoughts on the usefulness of a PI along nj and ny. I do indeed plan to hunt out in the surf. I a,ready spend about 75% of m time out there getting thrashed by the waves. I think with the amount of traveling I will b doing in years to come and my hunting style would justify a pI machine.
Thanks again __________________ |
