brass piece at the beach

I found this piece last week at a wild stoney beach in England.
No idea what could it could have been though... :yes:

That's a small packerout. Worth the price of scrap brass. More valuable than a leaverite. Could be WWII?

Yes indeed !
Because at this coast there were coal mines and the
germans wanted to bomb it......Which they in fact did !
There is an old cement bunker at the beach were one or two british soldiers
used to watch with binoculars towards the sea ,just in case german bomber
planes or warships would come.
