My brother had a standard round point shovel laying around because he broke the handle on it and didn't feel like fixing it. So, he gave it to me. I cut off the section where it broke off.
I laid out some measurements and cut off each side of the shovel, using a grinder, to make it a little more narrow. I went online and looked at some pictures of shovels that are used for metal detecting. I copied the one I liked and added a few extra things of my own. For the T-handle, I used a tee from an old Walmart above ground pool frame. It fit over the shovel handle perfectly! I secured it with a stainless steel bolt and a stainless steel nylon locking nut. I can't wait to try it out! This thing is going to sail right through those aggravating roots that always get in the way!
