using a scoop at the beach

I recently ordered a "RTG PRO DRAG SAND SCOOP (#724)" from Tony .... a picture of it can be found at the following link:

having never run a detector at a beach setting, my question us what is the most efficient/effective way to go through the sand in the scoop to find whatever it contains?

A scoop with holes drilled in it like that are more for hunting the wet sand or water where you can shake it in the water, I have a similar design scoop that I only use it in the water by a different maker, If I'm going to hunt dry sand I use the Kicker scoop I bought from Tony... For dry sand you would be better off with a basket made from hardware cloth that the kicker has.
