Micron

Hi I've got an old Micronta 4003 gathering dust on a shelf (best place for it I hear you all say!).
I've heard it said that if you rewind the RX and TX coils, it improves the performance. My question is that if you do rewind the RX and TX, do you rewind it to the original spec (i.e same guage wire and same number of turns as original) or do you rewind using a diferent spec.
Just wondered how rewinding the coil improves it's performance, as I'd like to do some mods on it.
Thanks all.
