Need to see movement. I'm thinking this is a railroad approved watch. Most of the $$$$$$ is in the movement not the case. WOLF

The dial is porcelain and in very good condition from What I can see... Are there any hairline cracks on the dial?

Like Wolf said, the movements is the key to the value. Because it has the minute hash marks, it's probably an approved RR watch.

BTW, the back looks like it is a plated watch case and has worn through to the base metal unless that is a weird shadow..

Should be able to use the palm of both hands (one on the face side and one on the back) to unscrew the back. Does not look like a pop off dust cover but rather a screw off. This will show the movement which is really important. As a non runner and not knowing what the movement is your looking at @ $40. The case is most likely silverode. Which is not silver but a nickle composite made to look like silver. Again you will know once the case is opened as it will say inside the back dust cover. WOLF

That does look pretty good, you should see if it can be fixed.

I found a similar Elgin detecting a month ago. An 1887 Elgin 14K gold fill. Considered selling but decided to keep it. It'll only go up in value if you hold onto it.

I think you'll be surprised. That's a really good movement and dang near bulletproof and the hair spring is intact. I wouldn't be surprised if it just needs a clean and service. Est. 40-50 bucks for that service. Great find! BTW, they are NOISY "tickers"
