Must have Excal II mods?

I'm hoping to add an Excal II to my arsenal very shortly and I'll be buying new as it seems solar eclipses happen at a greater frequency than do good clean used Excal's come up for sale. My question is what mod's are necessary right away and which are more sooner rather than later? I'm in no way electronically gifted, I could probably splice a few things together but more apt to cut my finger off so I'd have to pay someone else.

TIA!!

For me a straight shaft setup would be a priority, any detector I've used with a "S" shaft really wears out my arm especially when swinging in water.

The magnetic field off the coil is about 28"...... the lower shaft is 24". Id most definitely go with the CF. Aluminum blisters inside and will lock up very fast. There are advantages to better phones and a PP switch........ but not immediately. Never been a fan of the knob guard. Tape off the cable as low as you can giving enough for the coil to move........ or it will vibrate. I then run it straight up wrapping the left over loosely between the handle and cuff. Tape off the phones cable at the top of the shaft as well. Their phone cable is just to short and stiff.

Straight shaft #1! I have an aluminum one that came with the detector but I will probably change it over to CF in the future so that it'll match my scoop handle. ;) I had the earphones redone. Although I hunt in pinpoint mode in open water I don't see the need yet to do the PP mod. When I hunt closer to shore I'm in discriminate mode. Like Dew, I don't care for the knob guard.

Here are the threads on my Excal Blue 1000 and the 2 main posts that I did on it covering all the work in the last year. Good luck!

I tried the Excal stock last year. I can deal with s-shafts usually. The excal is the worst. That control unit is way to heavy to be out on the shaft like that. Converted to a 3piece plugger strait this year. Much better. The shaft clamps from plugger are fantastic. However that's a long friggin shaft and taking it apart every time isn't the easiest.
The knob guard is a pain in the ass. However it makes me not worried about the knobs when trucking the excal around. Well worth my sanity.

After another 5 years of digging bottle caps , we will see you make the Excalibur switch :laughing: , as far as Mods, Plugger CF shaft, custom to your size the way you want it, with a knob guard, is all you need for now, happy hunting Earl

...Plugger CF shaft ... with a knob guard, is all you need .

x2 I had the same machine & setup. One hunt I leaned the Excal against my car while reached for my scoop and all of a sudden a big wind gust came by and knocked the Excal right on the knobs. If it hadn't been for the guards, I truly believe I'd have a huge $$$$$ repair bill.

I swing right and left handed, knob guard wasn't a problem for me. Just my $0.02

Agree, the Excalibur 2 knob post's are a weak point, un- protected is a expensive accident waiting to happen , not counting the turn around time for your machine to get fixed , waiting- in season , if you don't have a spare machine, bad new's , Earl

The very best Excal mod is the one that makes it look and work like a CZ-21.

I'm with you Scuba, Time for the CZ's to regain there thrown ...So everyone that has excals or thinking of getting excals should get a Cz and use them. .:D

Obn CZ21's

So a ? for the Pro., i saw a few new one's with the plastic cracking , maybe they don't make them like they used to, what's your opinion :?: Also the same dual frequency technology 4 ever, might still be OK, but Scuba is collecting bottle cap's like he's getting a recycle cash in- 4 Felix zincon's  HOWBOUTIT

Get the pinpoint mod. You don't know what you're missing.

It's hard to figure out what mods to get

What to take today?
