So one Saturday morning I decided to go metal detecting in the woods by my house. At first, I kept digging aluminum, but then I got an interesting signal. I was about to dig it but I heard thunder, and it started to pour rain. I quickly grabbed a stick to mark the find and I ran to the car. I was deep in the woods, and everything was overgrown. I waited a few minutes in the car, and then I went back to the spot. I kept digging and digging, but then, about 8 inches down, my shovel hit something. I rubbed it with my glove, and it had a green color. I could also see that it was brass. I dug a huge hole around it, lifted it out, and I stared. I had no clue what it was. I detected a few feet around the area, just to see if there was more stuff. All I found were nails and twisted pieces of metal. I went to the car, drove home, and researched the item. It was an 1800s Victorian gas lamp valve! I have found a lot of cool things in the past, but this find was probably the coolest.

Nice find.
It is upside down in the picture.
The left end threaded onto the gas pipe on the wall and the lamp to the elbow.

Goes to show you never what what might be found in unlikely places.
