Found this interesting lead ball on my grandfathers farm here in North Ga. Way off the beaten path where we had plowed up a food plot, he lost his pocket knife (which i found). However in the meantime i dug this, which appears to be a projectile. Has a flat spot and a "seam" a little larger than 3\8 of an in. Any info would be great!

Without a micrometer, it's hard to tell the exact caliber. You can buy really inexpensive micrometers for under $10 at Walmart, Amazon, Harbor Freight, etc. and well worth getting if you are finding munitions.

In my opinion that is either a 65 or 69 caliber. Both calibers were used in the Civil War, the 65 being more popular from 1842 forward.

Nice find!!

Looks like a 36 cal or 40 cal possibly fired from a smooth bore pistol. Or a drop.
