Default R button

I found an R button recently and just wanted to a little more about it, history, age. It was found in Texas on a home site with other CW buttons. Does anyone know a little history on this button ?
Thanks

1850s US Mounted Riflemans button. Rare button but the Riflemen had a presence in Texas before the Civil War so to find one in Texas makes a lot of sense. Thatís an INCREDIBLE find and a very cool button!

Thanks guys, I appreciate the information. This button is slightly larger than a cuff button and the camera doesn't show it but I can see a bit of the gold plate still on it.
