Went out today to an early 1900s R.R. stop-- dug this brass item up. Could see a brand name on it BELLE....and a patent date of. Aug 1 93. Didn't know what it was? On the way home I figured it out -'''it's a pencil sharpener! Pretty unusual find for sure! Tony AZ...

0id ad..

Belle_Pencil_Sharpener_Pat_Aug_1_1893_Tower_1908_adv.jpg was designed to be kept attached to the non- sharpened end of the pencil , so you always had your sharpener handy...

As an artist and hunter, I have been wanting to find one of these style of sharpeners. This design was fairly common with a number of manufacturers in both the US and the UK.
I also want to find a nice gold fountain pen nib. I have dug fountain pens and parts, but without the nib!
I've been hunting a long time and am still surprised how few pen parts I have found.

I dug one of those but it isn't as classy or ornate as yours. Matter of fact yours probably has some value and I doubt mine does. A very unique item Tony and some great history research. Congrats! Trapper
