Found a small pendant with a gem in it. Looks like silver, has only a 9 stamped on the back, not 925. Could this be silver? What does the 9 by itself mean?

Could be silver, heres a test you can do at home to tell if its silver. #1 get some aluminum foil #2 make a small box out of the aluminum big enough to hold your pendant #3 spit on it  #4 cover the pendant completely with the aluminum foil. #5 if you smell a rotten egg smell and hear a crackling sound, you got some kicking breath!!! JK, seriously though, that's the silver oxides releasing from your pendant and returning to the air in sulphur form (if I read correctly). If there is no reaction, it is NOT silver! This method also works well with baking soda and boiling hot water to CLEAN silver. Good luck hope it checks out!

Take a coffee cup put 1 tbl spoon baking soda in it fill with water put it in microwave bring to boil sink a 2in x 2 inch piece of aluminum foil in it then drop your piece in on top of the foil, if the black starts to flake off and it smells like hard boiled eggs it is silver.

My guess is it is because it appears to be soldered together.
