Shut up about ATPro not working in salt water!

If ANYONE had a doubt about the ATPro in salt water...check out the below link...I never got to the end of the photos before I had to post.

I personally have found gold in salt water with my ATPro. But I think I might move south.

Nobody said it won't work. We are saying it won't work as good. I would put my skills and my CZ-21 against anyone with an AT-pro all day long. I have only hunted salt water for 3 weeks in Florida one winter. But, I know my machine.

Same with a lot of others and their skills with their Excal's. Nobody will convince me an At-Pro will get as deep or be as stable as a CZ-21 or an Excal in salt water.

You are going to lose depth. Sure you will find coins and rings. `You will be struggling to find the deeper ones that the hard hitters will get.

Just like on land my E-Trac got deeper than an At-Pro. I proved that side by side with one. My friend sold his At-Pro and got an E-trac. We did an honest comparison with finds that I got over I knew were coins and he couldn't register them on his machine no matter what settings he tried.

You CAN'T compare a mid level machine with a machine that costs twice as much. Not fair to the machine or manufacturer.

Of course the ATPro can not and will not replace my BBS, PI or other VLF detectors I own, but it is sure impressive what the ATPro has found in the surf.

I think we can all agree you can work with what you got...getting out and hunting is the most important aspect no matter what rig you run, even if its just eyehunting...cant find a damn thing indoors...

I will say in defense of the Pro, it is an amazing PRODUCER for a mid level rig in just about every disclipline of this sport! Relics, Totters, claddies, waterbabies, curbstrippers... No one can dispute the finds this rig has slung off since its intro...

It makes NO SENSE from a technical angle either...plenty of other single freaks out there running...Not a one has the actual in field Find Pedigree in so many subsets of this Sport as the Pro...It aint the Optimum rig in most cases, its got a whole lot of design flaws, awkward, and is a pantload, yet the damn thing simply flat performs! So...:?:

We have this heavy black magnetized sand up here, and even though I've never had the Pro in the salt, I gotta think its similar to a salt environment...No rig except a multifreak even has a chance, BUT, a guy can hunt it if he knows what the deal is and the limitations are...

Nothing sounds as it should, not even a Q laying right on top...you are basically listening to any kind of background interruption...You will not find a damn thing if you expect to hear the traditional target signals....forget about looking at the TIDS...Run Iron Audio on...

I had this one big stupid dog once, Louie. A no account and all purpose farm mutt. He wasnt a specialist in any particular field, not particularly 'user friendly' or really 'good' at anything at all... But for no apparent reason, if you were not picky, the damn guy simply performed in field! He was ready to go no matter what the weather and was a pure opportunist!

That SOB could Hunt! He didnt care what it was either...A raccoon, opossum, skunk, deer, muskrats, woodchucks, the neighbors chickens, your church shoes, He even went into the water and snatched bluegills right off their beds! TRUE!.....He would chase down and kill anything not knowing his limitations...just for the hell of it he would hunt, catch and eat grasshoppers in season!...The Pro reminds me of him!...!

Don't you just love our hobby? But just like any other hobby or sport one must know the rules and their equipment strengths and limitations. There is nothing that can replace the knowledge one must posses to be successful in any endeavor. Yup, a bit o luck never hurt.

Nice digs Mud-puppy, but you may want to see the dentist soon...or I am OK if you would like me to pull those walrus tusks...

Why don't you guys get a ruler and just whip them out...:laughing::laughing:

Mines bigger and better!

Here we go! JWP! Just the kind of reply a Pro guy could expect from a Deus runner!

Just like a Frenchy Wine sipper would say! "My vintage is more expensiver than yours!"

And I say..."Yeah? But I'm twice as drunk as you are for half the price!" Plus, no fancy corkscrew required! Straight outta the box for full and immediate effect! Thats the Pro!

Now, do you want that length in Metrics? Or should I just slap it down on the Deli counter scales and report the dead weight in Kourics, or Truffles?

Digger Please! You Doocys aint nothing but a hopped up rechargeable single freak Tesoro mounted on a dust bunny Swiffer rod!! Even with your lightweight wireless headphones, Not even the Labbers give you guys any kind of respect! You need a coax snorkle tube kit just to hunt a mudpuddle! Dont you DARE bring a poodle to a pitbull fight!

Blind squirrels find a nut every once in a while too.

Let's keep this thread going! The more people with ATPs on my beaches will yield me helluva more gold! Lol

I've seen ATP users here and there on our beaches,(Wet & Water), I don't bash them or try to change their decision, because sooner or later, you see them with a CZ or Excal.:D

I ran an AT pro for a year at my beaches and got zero gold. Dry sand hunters do good with them here. But if I post gold its not from the dry sand. I will say some beaches you can use a harbor freight detector and do good. Problem is in the surf the waves bust the controls off from the plastic at the screws if you got big surf:shock:

Yep - ATP works well in dry land and fresh water - but not in salty water....

Yes - it does "operate" in salt but not great - it's noisy and only hits on shallow targets - maybe 4 inches....

I have found some stuff in salt water with an ATP but it's not the best machine for it. I usually hunt dry and wet sand but not usually if it's saturated.

I'm not one of the people who will say the ATP is the best detector out there but I will say it is one of the best for the price. If I pay more for a detector in the future I expect it to be better than an ATP. If it's not I will be pissed off.

I never bash another machine, if it works for you then that's awesome!

That's what I think. Most mid-level and above metal detectors are good. A lot depends on what you start with and get used too. If you learn how to use the machine you can find stuff but once you get used to a certain one it is hard to go to a completely new one. I am thinking of getting a Minelab in the future and I know they are good but they sure do have an annoying sound:D

I believe if i was the guy with an AT Pro doing very well on the beach and read most of these posts.... id get a back up salt water machine. Same reason other people upgrade........... that old question, WHAT AM I MISSING? By the way 4" if it IDs gold in the salt water during recent drop periods could net you a good bit of gold.

Funny, I found a nice platinum ring with my Fisher F2 in the wet salt water sand. Hey Mud- I like that chain you found, very nice

Good posts, the more time with a machine, the better you get
