Well I’ve been offered a great deal on a older gpx 4500 single gp series coil. For $1120us. Under half the new cost ($1600au I’ve been offered it for, new they $3330 on sale with a rrp of $4199)

I know it’s not the ideal relic hunter but the cost means I could easyly get a relic coil (if there is such coil better suited to it)

It will be my first detector.

Below is some info from seller plus I got 11 pics. All looks like it’s in good nick original boxes, manual ect ect

Hey I'm Matt I seen your add that your after Minelab detector . Me and my partner are selling our Minelab GPX 4500 PI Metal Detector as our rego is due .

Here is some info

Revolutionised the game on small and deep nuggets when it came out and still holds its own against the new offerings from Minelab. It’s also a great relic machine from what I hear from US and European users. I am the original owner from new and only selling as I am taking a break from gold prospecting and will be spending more time in the city with my CTX3030 and my rego is due so needs to be paid .

Included in the package is the following:

- Minelab GPX 4500 Metal Detector

- Factory 11” Coil

- Minelab lithium-ion battery and power cable

- 12v Car Charger

- Mains charger with interchangeable plug for worldwide use

- Koss Headphones

- External Speaker that works with inbuilt booster, great for keeping untangled when swinging the pick

- Factory bungee cord

- Original User Manual

- Johnathon Porter SETA Project GPX 4500 Instructional DVD (Invaluable if a new GPX user)

- Handmade control box protective cover

It's basically like new and hardly used . I'm interested in 1600 or abit negotiable and am happy to express post to you as I got work tomorrow morning and I'm I’m Melbourne

Please let me know I'm with commonwealth bank if your interested I'll send my details through and I'll need your address for postage . Thank you Matt and Mel

The coil say gp coil with blue label. So my googling says that’s the dd coil. What’s the next coil I should get. Do want to do some relic hunting.

Where are you hunting at where a pulse machine would not only be your go to relic machine but your first detector in general?

Pulse really shine in the heavily mineralized soil and the salt. They can get very deep and can find small items. However as I understand them they still are a single tone machine with limited discrimination. Relic hunters do occasionally use the in normal soil but generally after they have hammered their sites with a VLF machine.

Good luck.

I kinda just jumped on it due to price. I do have a property that is next to a old gold mine, so deffinitly want to hunt small nuggets.

Afmittky its way to overkill and advanced for what I’ll be using it for.

75% of my hunting will be social with the local club. Rest may be on my property which does have a lot of minieals.

From my basic research I’ll grab a mono coil straight up, I’ll prolly try to use this machine in as simple mode as I can.

If it’s to much for me to handle I might try to swap it for a deus

GPX series detectors
Iron discrimination more limited vs VLF detectors.
They are heavier than VLFs

You will be tethered to GPX unless you spend some extra loot on battery pack.
Screamer battery works well. A bit pricey.

High conductors will sound like iron generally.

Lower conductors is where they shine.

Depth wise lower conductors they are deeper than higher conductors like coppper and silver.

In real mild ground they could have advantage for depth but good VLF likely better choice.

Generally more Emi sensitive vs VLF detectors.

You won’t ever be able to wear shoes with metal in them like eyelets, steel toe, etc.

Coil sweep speed has to be real slow.
Good VLF like Deus, EQx you’ll get smoked for ground coverage over the same period of time.

Separation abilities poor compared to vlf.

Use of mono coil on GPX affords NO use of iron reject function unlike use of dd coil. Use of dd coil can help a person reject iron and nails down to around 4” mark give or take depending on size of iron.

Learning curve steeper vs VLF imo.

You will dig more iron on average vs VLF use on average.

You have no way to differentiate between good low conductors like nickels vs tabs, pull rings.

Not a good choice for a person’s first detector.

I had a GPX 4500 btw.

Modern trash sites a no no.
Sites with loads of iron a no no.
You’ll need a bigger shovel, a sturdy one at that so more weight to tote around.

If you hunted out west primarilyin USA in cleaner sites or lived near Culpeper Va area, this is where they shine. You’ll likely have to wear a harness too. And when it’s hot they are very uncomfortable.

Yea it’s got ten harness/battery pack Combo.

Yea I fully admit it’s not only beyond the normal starter/general use detector and straight into the deep end of specialist gold hunting.

Was looking for a nox800 but this is only <$300us more than the going price of a new 800.

Even if I’m bashing my head against the wall. I can keep this as my gold field unit and keep huniting for a used 800

I guess I’ll be digging a lot of iron then. Or going over well hunted areas were the trash is gone.

Impulse buy I’ll make it work for the price I payed.

But keen to hear any recomdations on coils ect

Knowing my luck it was a scam anyway and won’t receive anything 🤔

Well another new impulse buy a nox 800 (20% sale) which is prolly what I should of started with. Both end of the scale covered now.
