I've always wanted to get into metal detecting, but I never really had the chance untill last week when my father gave me his grandfather's metal detector: a 1973 whites coinmaster. Although I don't really intend to use it all that much (I just bought myself a cheap Bounty Hunter) It did inspire me to finally break into the hobby!

I'm sure you can find a manual online if you don't already have one and figure it out. I think there are a bunch of people who still use them.

You reminded me that I have a Coinmaster 5000/D stuffed away back in the closet. Never had a mindset to learn to use it properly, but thank goodness for the newer detectors. Show some pics when you can.
 
Welcome to the hobby and the forum, from upstate Ny!

The good thing about this hobby is you can do it as little or much as you please. Although I never thought I would get as far into it as I am, it sure has a way of sucking you in pretty easily.
