I found a penny today...

...so I'm not completely broke!

It's a nice little 1938 wheat penny. There's still a lot of detail left on it too so that's a good thing.

Must... not... clean... (the temptation is real)

Put it in a coin flip and staple it shut. I know firsthand what cleaning a coin can do to it. Found my oldest coin, a 1929 penny. What's the first thing I do? Run it under water. Now there's barely any detail left and the date is completely unreadable.
 
I had a couple that were badly degraded and were impacted by washing so I learned my lesson on that. Now, I wash the dirt off enough to see the date and then let it dry and put it in my book.

It's sad that new pennies can come up in horrible condition and appear almost like acid was poured on them but the old pennies (like this one) can come up in really decent condition.
 
Take some beer while your drinking it if your over 21 and a toothpick and slowly clean the dirt off it .
