A friend of mine contacted me about a knife his father dug up. Here is the story I copied for you guys to read

He dug this up about 10 years ago while metal detecting about a mile from York hill at the yadkin river, back in behind my grandmas property. It has Eagles on both sides of the guard. Blade measures a little over 8 1/2 inches. Could you possibly help me to identify it? I greatly appreciate your time friend!

Looks like a bayonet being so long and straight. It is vintage cool though![/QUOTE

Not a bayonet. They always have either a hole in the crossguard, or the crossguard only extends to one side.

They had the eagles on the guards. Lots of variations out there. War souvenir or surplus. Type in German dagger or German dress dagger.

This seems more likely, but I don't think it is German.

Reminds me of an old style Arkansas Tooth Pick from about the civil war era. there are several site that can help you ID the find. If your interested you might try "ID ME" on FaceBook where a bunch of metal detectorist post their "What's This" items.

I think this person is on the right track. It looks somewhat crudely made, so positively identifying the age and manufacturer will be almost impossible. Still a really cool find.
