I found this button while on a trip hunt in Texas. It is the size of a cuff button. I found one like it on eBay, but no info. Very crusty. Any ideas? Thanks.

I found this pic on the internet, doesn't elaborate anymore than it is a naval button from the 1880's. It showed the obverse, no benchmarks.i need to invest in button books.

I have looked thru Albert's button book a couple of times and I don't see that pattern at all. The British have one with the wreath around an anchor, but it also has a small crown where yours has the loop. Since the ones you are showing have a plain back, I would think it is probably steel, which again would make it civilian. The Navy type buttons are the most reproduced of all. You find them often on yacht club blazers.
