I found this at 4am, pitch black.
I assumed it was 14k white gold and ice. It rang up 1, 2 and 3 on the Nox and felt pretty dense. My headlight made those *diamonds* sparkle! Looked so darn good!
Turned out to be stainless and bling.

1967 Cardinals World Series Champion Ring. I thought I had something. It didn't take long to realize it was fake, but I still thought it was going to be at least a $50 fake. It's really well made,the wife took several minutes to call the diamonds fake, normally she can tell from across the room. I was disappointed to find it new on Ebay for $30.

Not silver, not white gold, and definitely not a 2 carat diamond.

I was desperate to find just one one more piece of gold to hit a goal of 12 for the year in December 2013, a quest I had been on since March.
This thing came up clean as a whistle from pretty deep...my holy grail gold target for the year and a big class ring to boot.
It turned out to be a generic salesman's sample gold class ring, a pretty cool and rare find in its own right and although it tested as solid gold and not plated like most of these things usually are it wasn't 10k...more like 8-9k.
I just wasn't counting anything in this quest that was not at least 10k so a real heartbreaker at the time.

The lion’s head ring I found a few weeks ago was my only true heartbreaker so far - dang if it didn’t look every bit the part coming out of the hole in the dark at 11:30 at night! And boy, did those eyes sparkle in the light of a distant street light!! About half a second under normal light at home was all it took to shatter my left ventricle :lol:

First ring I found....Man was I excided plucking it out of the dirt....After I cleaned it up and took a good look it turns out to be costume...No markings and not a real rock...

I have seen others find fake class rings like this but they were always wrecked because at best they were plated gold but this was a rare one that actually was solid...although lower karat than what is popular in this country.
I have yet to see any mention on any forum of anyone else that has found a class ring like this.
In Germany and a few other countries 8-9k is way more common but I had to set up some kind of rules so this one barely missed the threshold so a heartbreaker for me.
About two days later I found a big, real 14k ring that completed my quest so I felt much better.
I can laugh about all this now but back then it didn't seem so funny.
