Toasted Really Bad

I found a coin that really tested my electrolysis skills. The coin is the exact size and thickness of a nickel so I know it was once minted as a nickel but the coin now is far from recognizable.

Spent all day zapping the coin and removed all the crud, but the coin came out smooth. The after pic makes the coin look rough, but the texture is smooth.

Any ideas? Did I do something wrong or was it a lost cause before I began? Should I have tried something else first and then used electrolysis last.... Just asking since I'm far from an expert on bringing life back into toasty.

Thanks.....
Rob

Goodness that thing is burned! I try acid on them first in that condition, typically a weak one. just my 2 cents
