Which pinpointer?

I have the Whits TRX. Love that it pin points off the tip and not the whole shaft. Takes the guess out of trying to find the target in the hole. With the Garrett you could have a target in the side wall of the hole. And think that the target is in the bottom. Pluss the TRX is a pulse induction pin pointer. Gives you added depth.
I have used the Garrett and still have it. It is a good pin pointer but it leaves a lot of guess work in finding the target.

+1 for TRX. I have owned many garretts and now I won't go back after the TRX

I have the deteknix, the black Garrett, the Garrett carrot, and the TRX. The TRX is great but it will interfere with my etrac and ctx sometimes then I have to do a noise cancel to make it better. I'm starting to really like the carrot the best. I've already sent two Trx's back due to falsing

Pretty much any pointer beside the Fisher will do you better!

I prefer the Garrett PP2 or AT but the TRX, Land or Sea, Makro, etc are all a major step up.

Thanks everyone, I'm leaning toward a Garrett. The black one because I don't do any water detecting.

Even if you don't water hunt the Carrot is easier to clean under tap water, easier to find if you lose it, and it beeps to help you find it.

If you do get the black ProPointer, tape some electrical tape around the speaker it will help keep the mud and water out and quiet it down a little. HH.

I have the sound turned off on my TRX. I much prefer the vibration only mode. I even have several layers of electrical tape over the speaker because it still beeps (quite loudly, to me anyway) when you turn it on or off. I really don't like how loud most pinpointers are.

Ok, thanks, I'm leaning now toward trx....it sounds really nice

The Garrett Carrot or the TRX are the way to go, I have both and favor the TRX because I like the tip only sensitivity. The Carrot is nice too though, side detection is great for searching loose dirt you have taken out of the hole.

Can't go wrong either way!!!

I just got a land or sea this week. Haven't even got out with it yet. JUST playing with it in the house I'm impressed. VERY solid build. Four levels of sensitivity. Waterproof down to 20 feet and floats. Sound and vibrate or either alone. Pulse induction circuitry. Doesn't false. Cheaper than the big boys. You can get them online for 99 bucks. Might be worth a look. Of course you'll like any of the ones mentioned above. They're all really good.

When using the TRX at the park, all the ladies turn around and give me a dirty look when I turn it off.:?:

Geez... thanks everone for making me more indecisive. My Pro pointer has finally developed a case of the falses that has been progressively getting worse. Thought I had finally decided on going with the carrot but it was a really a toss up between that and the TRX. Both seem to have advantages and disadvantages. (wish I could afford both) Now I'm back on the fence again about which route to go. Like the fact the carrot has the side detection and a brighter LED based on what I've read. Would come in handy since alot of my hunting is done when it's dark. The extra depth and just the detection off the tip with the TRX would also have it's advantages since I hit alot of soccer/ baseball fields and will just pop with a screwdriver vs digging a plug. Seems like the TRX would hold the avantage there. One of these days I'll figure it out and pull the trigger on one or the other.:?:

I had a fisher pin pointer. I liked that it rang when I touched the target but I have moved and can't find it now. What kind do u recommend? Price of it?

Fisher F Points are essentially free...I have one...I got it with my purchase of my F70 years ago...It gets VERY bad press in the Detecting world, for good reason, but I have found it has some unique uses....For a clad stabber mainly, that slim finger fits right into a screwdriver hole and like you said, it wont buzz unless it touches a target, so when a guy gets an errant coin tipped on edge, or on a "solid nickel" signal that you just cant stab, (gold ring) it comes in handy to locate the target subsurface...

Also, to the uneducated, the damn thing can be easily mistaken for a weapon! It buzzes like a yellow jacket as soon as you turn it on! Without touching any metal at all! If brandished menacingly towards an approaching reprobate, it will allow a guy time to either bravely retreat, or access their primary self defense mechanism!....Try to look tough with a Carrot in your hand!

Also, its pretty good at fishing around under the grass roots for chains...so theres that too....All this said, I use it about once per month, generally on a chain signal, or a recalcitrant coin tipped on edge down in the hole..

I got a lanyard for it even..from the Casino..I bet that alone set me back a few hundred dollars! Its a funny little thing alright...Its the only Pinpointer I got for the above reasons mentioned...

If it comes down to the Garrett(s) for you I just want to put my 2 cents in. Spend the additional $10 or so and get the waterproof one. I am not (yet) a big water detecting guy, but more often than not I have been near a creek and stuck my PP in the water to recover coins. Plus, it's super easy to clean as others have stated. Side note: I tried the cheap-o HF Cen-Tech route and that thing was a hunk-o-!!!!.
